Kompong Som, or Sihanoukeville as it is also known, is the beach holiday location of choice for tourists and locals in Cambodia. The town itself has been aptly described as ‘charmless’, dusty and without any kind of beauty (natural or man made), but the white sand and clear water of the beaches keeps drawing us back. Long snapped the above shot on the three hour journey down to the beach. Three grown men on the back of a motorcycle? Easy!
How did you spend your Christmas? We started ours off at the beach in Kompong Som, sipping iced coffees and skyping my family. A four hour drive back to Phnom Penh, with seven people squeezed into a five seater car, was not my ideal way of spending Christmas afternoon but it was worth it to come back in time to celebrate the 12th birthday of my lovely cousin-in-law, Thyda.
This time last week, I was 30,000 feet in the air, flying over the Indian Ocean. Since then, I’ve spent four nights in Bangkok and three nights in Phnom Penh, walked many kilometres, spent many dollars and eaten far, far too much food.
Even though I live in the outer Eastern suburbs and Box Hill is a 30 minute drive towards the city, I consider it to be a second home. It is here that I spend the majority of my Sundays, going to church, eating and shopping.
These photos are almost a year old, when my friends had just welcomed their second child, a baby girl, into the world. I visited them at their house and was impressed with just how relaxed the mood was….they had even been making jam!
Yes, yes, I know. I’m rapidly turning into one of those people…the kind who take pictures of flowers all the time but honestly, it’s really not my fault. My mum keeps picking these gorgeous flowers from her garden and I can’t resist getting the camera out. I obviously need to find some new material to photograph that doesn’t include my sister, cats or pretty things from the garden. Suggestions?
A week of holidays has passed and I’ve been enjoying some lazy days at home. To me, a holiday isn’t a holiday if I haven’t spent at least a few days in my pyjamas doing pretty much nothing.
Seeing as you can’t have chocolate chip cookies ALL the time, here is a good little snack to balance everything out. This recipe takes about 5 minutes to make, requires no baking or lengthy preparation and feels a bit naughty even though it is purely nice.
Can anything beat a choc-chip cookie just out of the oven? If you answered yes, than you probably haven’t met this particular cookie. This recipe claims to produce the best ever chocolate chip cookie and I’m really not going to argue.
Last weekend we headed down to Phillip Island with friends to enjoy some well deserved relaxation. With two energetic kids under the age of 4 in our midst, the stay wasn’t always relaxing but we had a fantastic time filled with sun, laughter and lots of food!
